Largest Lowry exhibition to commence in Salford
07/07/2006
The largest ever LS Lowry exhibition is to open in Salford, his home city.
From today until September, the Lowry at Salford Quays is displaying every one of its 350 paintings and drawings by the artist.
Famous for his "matchstick men" and women, Lowry painted in pencil, watercolour and pastel as well as ballpoint pen and felt-tip.
Although often criticised at the time, his works have become famous with his painting of Liverpool's Liver Building recently selling for £1 million.
The centre bearing his name opened in 2000 and also has his collections and studies from when he was a student at art school in the early 20th century, along with pieces he completed until his death in 1976.
Visitors can see the collection until September 10th.
