Les to leave Corrie after ten years
31/05/2007
Bruce Jones, who plays Les Battersby in Coronation Street, will not return to the long-running drama following his suspension earlier this year.
In March, the News of the World reported that Mr Jones drunkenly insulted fans at the Old Rectory restaurant in Stockport and discussed the outcome of the Tracy Barlow murder trial plot.
However, the soap star, who is rumoured to have earned £120,000 a year playing Les, has always denied the allegations.
In the soap, Les is currently on the road as an assistant to a tribute band but ITV executives have been unable to divulge how his continued absence will be explained.
Producer Steve Frost said: "Bruce's portrayal of Les Battersby meant that Les quickly became a classic Coronation Street character who will be remembered for many years to come.
"However, after ten great years we feel we have reached the end of the road with storylines for Les. We wish Bruce all the best for the future."
Loudmouth Les arrived on the street in June 1997 with his equally noisy wife Janice, as well as daughters Leanne and Toyah.
