Lowry announces new season of shows
14/07/2006
Football, King Lear and Maggie Thatcher are among the forthcoming themes to be covered at the Lowry, Salford Quays, at the end of this year.
The theatre and gallery complex has announced a variety of shows and exhibitions for its winter schedule, with music also featuring high on the agenda.
Artists are currently working towards the One Love: The Football Art Prize exhibition, which will showcase the best impressions of the nation's favourite game.
There will also be a photographic display, depicting pictures from the World Cup finals since 1966, including the tournament in Germany just past.
However, there is more to the Lowry than football, with Shakespeare and politics taking to the stage.
The internationally-acclaimed Drama Theatre of St Petersburg presents their new adaptation of King Lear, while Britain's Iron Lady will be glorified on stage in the satirical, Thatcher: The Musical.
The Lowry has two theatres, the Lyric and the Quays, which play host to a variety of shows, including comedy and musicals.
