Lowry painting comes home
14/06/2007
The Lowry in Salford will be hosting a new exhibition, The Myth of the North, later this month.
And a version of local artist LS Lowry's most famous works will take pride of place in the gallery, reports the BBC.
Lancashire Fair: Good Friday, Daisy Nook, which aims to highlight the mood of a Failsworth beauty spot after the second world war, will be displayed in the art centre's latest exhibition.
One version of the piece recently sold for £3.772 million in an auction in London.
The Lowry's head of galleries Lindsay Brooks said: "When we first asked if we could take a version of Good Friday, Daisy Nook on loan we had no idea that another would be going under the hammer a few weeks before the show opens, nor that it would fetch nearly £4 million in the process."
It is a delight that the public will now get the chance to see a version of what has now become a very famous Lowry painting, she added.
The Rocky Horror Show is currently being performed at The Lowry, running until Saturday June 16th.
