Manchester Airport to mark 70th birthday
12/06/2008
The managing director of Manchester Airport has revealed there will be a number of celebratory events to mark the terminal's 70th anniversary on June 25th.
Andrew Cornish said events include a dinner for dignitaries, a family day and the unveiling of the new Concorde hangar.
Manchester Airport passengers can now fly to over 220 destinations around the world but in 1938, there were 12 destinations and only one of these was outside the UK.
"Manchester Airport has a long and fascinating history and we're proud to be celebrating our 70th anniversary," remarked Mr Cornish.
"The airport has changed beyond recognition from those early days and we are constantly innovating and improving Manchester Airport."
Manchester Airport is wholly owned by the ten local authorities that comprise Greater Manchester.
