Manchester Art Educational Festival ends this week
03/07/2006
Manchester's residents are being urged to take in the city's Art Education Festival at the Contact Theatre, before it finishes at the end of this week.
Schoolchildren across the city have been showcasing their artwork, which is "definitely" worth visiting, according to city councillor Jeff Smith.
Over 1,000 children from more than 40 primary, special and high-schools are involved in this year's project, which sees them perform nightly drama productions, as well as presenting their artistic skills.
With the theme of 'enchantment', the festival includes performances such as Hansel and Gretel and the Goose Girl.
Councillor Smith, Manchester City Council's executive member of children's services, said: "The pupils have worked really hard on their drama performances and art work for the exhibition which shows the creativity and talent in our schools.
"Both the nightly performances and the exhibition are definitely worth a visit."
The Contact Theatre is found on Oxford Road, behind the Manchester Academy and close to the University of Manchester.
