Manchester Pride money distributed to good causes
21/12/2006
A fundraising venture that raised £70,000 during this year's Manchester Pride gay festival has distributed the money to good causes and charitable organisations in Greater Manchester.
Operation Fundraiser, a joint initiative between the Lesbian and Gay Foundation and HIV charity George House Trust, has boosted the funds of several HIV and lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender charities in the city-region.
George House Trust and The Lesbian and Gay Foundation each received £2,500, while the remaining £65,000 was distrusted to numerous good causes, reports Pink News.
Among the recipients was an organisation that will fund a sign language interpreter for next year's Manchester Pride festival, Age Concern, the Gay Healthy Alliance Project and the Greater Manchester Immigration AIDS unit.
The yearly Manchester Pride festival, which celebrates lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender life, began life in the early 1990s in order to raise money in support of people affected by HIV.
