Manchester beats Birmingham in business poll
18/09/2007
Manchester has been named as one of the UK's best cities to do business, according to a new study.
Sealing Manchester's status as England's second city, the so-called capital of the north has overtaken Birmingham and is just behind London in the race to be the UK's best business location.
Although in second place overall, Manchester beat London in key areas such as best place for a new headquarters and car parking, according to Cushman & Wakefield's UK Cities Monitor.
Elaine Rossall, head of business space research at the firm, said that Manchester is increasingly recognising the need to promote its "competitive advantages" and understands the "complex ingredients of success".
The study also said that Manchester should brace itself for the country's largest influx of companies over the next five years.
Earlier this year, a BBC poll found that 48 per cent of Britons believe Manchester to be the second most important city after London, compared with 40 per cent who voted for Birmingham.
