Manchester 'chav' aims for Eurovision glory

18/05/2006

UK Eurovision Song Contest representative, Daz Sampson, has said "it's amazing" to be representing his country in the competition.

In an interview with the BBC, the Stockport County fan said that he was going Athens "to win it" but thinks that it will be "difficult" to emerge victorious.

Sampson describes himself as a "Manchester chav" with "Mancunian charm" who is going to Greece to "build a few bridges" for the UK in Europe.

He told the BBC: "I'm not saying that some idiot from Manchester with a very good song is going to be enough to shift political ideas, but unless someone does speak out and try, then we'll never get anywhere.

"That's why people are backing me even if they don’t like the song, because they can see I'm passionate and that I love the programme."

Sampson's song is called Teenage Life and viewers will be able to see if he can win the competition on BBC One on Saturday May 20th.
