Manchester commended for community transport
14/07/2006
Greater Manchester is leading the way in developing the community transport sector, it will be announced today.
The achievements of the Greater Manchester Transport Authority will be highlighted at a national seminar at the City of Manchester Stadium.
The organisation's partner for the Greater Manchester Communities On the Move (GMCOTM) project, the Community Transport Association, will also be trumpeted.
Over the past four years, the initiative has offered support to local community transport scheme promoters regarding networking, training and good management practice.
Paul Goggins MP commented on the scheme's success, saying: "The [GMCOTM] initiative has established itself as a role model for partnership working in the community transport sector.
"Community transport schemes have a very important job to play in aiding regeneration and providing communities with access to resources such as jobs, education and healthcare. The professionalism of the [GMCOTM] project is to be commended."
There are 15 GMCOTM-involved organisations providing community transport to Manchester residents.
