Manchester hosts anthropological film festival
26/06/2007
One of Britain's biggest anthropological film screenings is set to take place at the University of Manchester between June 27th and July 2nd.
Documenting the lives of people from cultures around the world, the tenth RAI International Festival of Ethnographic Film will include 45 hours of new movies and a three-day international conference.
There will also be an evening with Kevin Macdonald, the Oscar-winning director of Last King of Scotland on June 27th.
Director of the university's Granada Centre Paul Henley said: "The aim of this festival is to promote cultural diversity and intercultural dialogue through film.
"We aim to bring together not only academic anthropologists and professional film-makers from all over the world, but also members of the public."
China, ancient and modern, is one the festival's themes and a screening of 12 documentaries about the country will take place on June 30th.
The festival, which is sponsored by the Royal Anthropological Institute, is an itinerant event, moving from one university to another every two years.
