Manchester is UK's fastest-growing city, says report
15/07/2008
Manchester is UK's fastest growing city in economic terms, with employment having risen by 14 per cent in the past eight years, according to a new report.
The figures are from the second edition of the State of the City report which measures Manchester's performance in a number of key areas.
A further 100,000 jobs will be created in the next 15 years, according to the study, which also found that the number of people moving to Manchester is growing by one per cent a year - twice the national average.
City council leader Sir Richard Leese said he has a vision of a city where people live longer, and are wealthier and happier.
"We're working closely with our partners to realise it," he added.
Evidence from the State of the City report will be used by city leaders to outline priorities for the future.
Midas, Greater Manchester's inward investment agency, recently revealed that it helped create 3,110 new jobs in the city-region in the fiscal year 2007-08.
