Manchester pedal power
08/06/2006
The people of Manchester are being urged to take to their bicycles later this month for Manchester Bike Week.
Starting on Saturday June 17th, a wide-range of cycling activities will be available to people of all ages across the city.
The event is organised by Manchester City Council in association with a number of local cycling groups and aims to get more people on to two-wheels rather than four.
Consisting of bicycle stunt displays, cycling training and employee bike-to-work schemes, the week is promoting the benefits of riding a bike.
Manchester City Council's executive member for planning and the environment, Councillor Neil Swannick, said: "Cycling is fun and a wonderful way of boosting health and fitness as well as being a greener alternative to travelling by car.
"This is a great chance for everyone to dust off their old bikes and use some pedal power to make this year's Manchester Bike Week the biggest and best ever."
Bike Week is occurring across the country, with 250,000 participants expected to take part.
