Manchester set for city centre ice rink
09/11/2006
Work is set to start on the installation of an ice rink in Manchester city centre as part of festive celebrations in the city, it has been announced.
Piccadilly Gardens provides the setting for a 750 sq m rink, entitled On Ice at Piccadilly, which is scheduled to open on November 16th.
Running seven days a week until January 7th, with a solitary break for Christmas Day, adults will be offered an hour of skating across the public space for £7.50, while those under 13-years-old will be charged £5.
Commenting on the news, councillor Pat Karney, Manchester city centre spokesperson, said: "Manchester has the best Christmas events in the country."
He added that the construction will be "bringing an authentic ice rink to Manchester's contemporary pleasure ground at the heart of the city".
In related news, from next week Manchester city centre will host a series of Christmas markets to help shoppers looking for gift ideas.
The largest market is scheduled to take place in Albert Square, in front of Manchester's town hall.
