Manchester super casino hearing to take place soon
23/08/2006
Public hearings are to take place over the coming weeks on the issue of the UK's first super casino.
According to the Casino Advisory Panel, examinations-in-public will start next week for areas, including Manchester, that are on the shortlist to host the massive gambling venue.
The Manchester hearing will take place on September 7th at the Manchester Golden Tulip Hotel in Trafford Park. Manchester will learn if it has been successful by the end of the year.
Only one super casino is allowed under the conditions of the Gambling Act.
Commenting on the recent decision that Manchester would be on the short-list, Richard Leese, leader of city council, told the BBC: "We are delighted that the independent panel has endorsed our assessment that Manchester has proved to be a robust location for a regional casino."
Other northern candidates that hope to host the super casino include Blackpool, Glasgow and Newcastle-upon-Tyne.
Cardiff and London's Millennium Dome are also in the running.
