Manchester to get the 'Chill Factor'
15/08/2006
Manchester is to get its own Alpine village complex complete with real snow ski slopes, which it hopes will be Britain's largest indoor snow-sports destination.
The new centre, which will open next year, is to be called Chill Factor E and will offer both adventure activities and an apres ski leisure area, complete with Alpine-themed bars and restaurants.
The site, which is to be located next door to the Trafford Centre, will have three separate but interconnected snow-covered slopes, 180 meters long, offering skiing, snowboarding and tobogganing, with a snow-play area for children
The centre will also have rock and ice climbing facilities and an indoor skatepark.
Managing director, David Sterland, said: "We are confident that we are creating one of the country's most outstanding leisure venues.
"It will appeal to a broad range of users including experienced sporting enthusiasts, beginners wanting to learn in a safe environment, modern shoppers, families and school parties as well as people looking for a stylish alternative to their regular social scene."
Chill Factor E, which has been developed by Mountaineering Activities (Trafford) and Peel Investments, is set to October 2007.
