Manchester transport strategy published
06/12/2007
Manchester is now England's second city after London and deserves a transport infrastructure that reflects its importance, say local transport bosses.
The Greater Manchester Passenger Transport Authority (GMPTA) has developed the Regional Centre Transport Strategy, which includes a number of proposals designed to provide a world-class transport system.
It is set in the context of the Transport Innovation Fund (Tif) bid recently submitted to the government, which if successful, would enable city transport chiefs to overhaul the network and introduce a congestion charge scheme.
Chair of the GMPTA, Roger Jones, said: "Key to the strategy is how changes to our transport, both public and private, can play a central role in making our city more appealing and attractive, as well as more efficient.
"A successful Tif bid will allow us to bring in these changes far more quickly than any other option."
Mr Jones wants members of the public to visit the GMPTA's website to view the Regional Centre Transport Strategy in full and to make comments about the proposals.
