Mega Mela returns to Manchester
17/07/2006
An event "celebrating the richness of cultural diversity" in Manchester is to take place at the end of the month.
The Manchester Summer Mega Mela, described by councillor Mark Hackett as "a spectacular and well-organised event", will celebrate Asian music, food and fashion.
Building on the success of previous years, 2006's festival will be the largest ever held in the city.
Events will include a fun fair, a fashion show and cultural performances, as well as over 60 stalls of speciality food and crafts.
Chair of the Mela management group, Mr Puspa Shrestha, said: "After last year's success at Heaton Park, we have returned to Platt Fields Park for this summer's Mela.
"This Mela will have something for everyone and we welcome visitors from Manchester and other areas to have a good time at the Mela."
Thousands of people from different ethnic backgrounds from across the north-west region are expected to attend.
Platt Fields Park hosts the event between July 29th and July 30th.
