Metrolink passengers 'get a smoother ride'
09/04/2008
Tram journeys in Manchester are "smoother, quieter and more reliable" than they were before last summer's upgrade to the Metrolink, according to Greater Manchester Passenger Transport Executive's (GMPTE) interim service director Michael Renshaw.
Commenting specifically on the 20 miles of track on the Bury and Altrincham lines, which was replaced last year, the GMPTE stated that more and more people are indicating their happiness with the service.
His comments follow the transport group's Ipsos Mori-conducted survey which showed that 89 per cent of local people were satisfied with the Metrolink services. This figure is ten per cent higher than the one recorded last summer before the changes to the track were made.
"I'm pleased that the work we're doing to improve Metrolink has led to an increase in the level of satisfaction with the service," said Mr Renshaw.
At the beginning of April, the GMPTE announced that environmental inspections will be undertaken on the proposed new Metrolink lines during the first half of the month.
