New BMX facility to open in Hulme Park
05/07/2007
Riders from across Greater Manchester are likely to be looking forward to this Saturday, when a new dirt jump facility opens in Hulme Park.
The BMX track, spanning a 600 metre-square area, will be used for the first time by riders from 13:30 BST on July 7th when the Hulme LAP It Up event is set to take place.
Several months of coordination between the council and a BMX group in the area have resulted in the establishment of the circuit, culminating in the opening event which is organised by the Local Action Partnership (LAP) of residents and the police.
City council leader Sir Richard Leese remarks: "This is the latest of a series of new facilities in Hulme which are making the area one of the most popular places to live in the city.
"New developments in housing, parks and education, plus a wealth of cultural activity generated the thriving residents' groups are helping to create a happy, sustainable community."
Hulme Park also boasts a football pitch, basketball area, an artists' performance area and sensory garden among other community facilities.
