New Islington Festival this Saturday
29/08/2006
A celebration of Manchester's 'newest' and 'hippest' places is going ahead this weekend, as the New Islington Festival gets underway.
Folk acts, famous Manchester headliners and some of the city's best DJs will be performing at the event, which is targeting people of all ages.
In addition, the city's most prominent artists and street entertainers will be showcasing their material throughout Saturday September 2nd.
Free art workshops, an urban youth art competition and the 'Spurting Man' will also be found at the festival, which will aim to entertain the youngsters of the city.
Music will be played all day long on the main stage, with the event culminating in a grand finale fireworks display at the end of the day.
New Islington is Manchester's Millennium Community, one of seven national regeneration agency communities which have been created across the country.
The festival begins at 12:00 BST, lasting for nine hours.
