Oldham man refused bail in 1975 moors murder case
23/04/2007
A man accused of murdering an 11-year-old girl who was stabbed to death three decades ago has been refused bail by a Bradford judge.
Last week, market trader Ronald Castree, 53, of Oldham, pleaded not guilty at Bradford Crown Court to the murder of Lesley Molseed.
Mr Castree has been remanded in custody and is due to stand trial for the murder of Lesley on October 22nd.
Lesley disappeared on October 5th 1975 after leaving her home in Rochdale to run an errand for her mother.
Her body was found three days later on Rishworth Moor, West Yorkshire, above the A672 Oldham to Halifax Road. She had been stabbed 12 times.
In 1976, Stefan Kiszko, a tax clerk from Rotherham, was convicted of Lesley's murder and spent 16 years in prison before his conviction was quashed by the Court of Appeal. However, he died shortly after his release.
