Opera screening for Manchester public
22/06/2006
A continental atmosphere will descend on Exchange Square next week, with the showing of the Royal Opera House's Le Nozze di Figaro.
Piazza-style seating, as well as coffee, pizzas and pancakes, will be on offer to the general public as they sit back and enjoy one of Mozart's most popular operas.
The new production, directed by David McVicar, tells the witty tale of love, betrayal and forgiveness.
Exchange Square's big screen will broadcast the event that will not be shown live on television anywhere else.
The performance on Wednesday June 28th is the second of three live performances planned for broadcast at the venue over June and July.
Manchester City Council's executive member for culture and leisure, councillor Mark Hackett, said: "These public screenings of the Royal Opera House performances bring a vibrancy to Manchester's public open spaces on summer evenings and are a delightful way for shoppers, workers and families to spend time relaxing in the city centre."
The Royal Opera House's Turando will be the culmination of these public screenings on July 7th.
