Police arrest man in 'Scream' firework investigation
14/11/2007
A man has been arrested in connection with an incident that took place last month when someone wearing a Scream-style mask set off an industrial-strength firework in a small Bolton shop.
Greater Manchester police said a 22-year-old man from Bolton is in custody helping detectives with their inquiries.
The incident took place on October 29th at 21:30 GMT in the California Wines shop on Tonge Moor Road.
CCTV footage shows the offender, who was masked and wearing a black cloak, dropping the giant firework - possibly an Annihilator 500 Shot Repeater - and running away as the first of 500 smaller rockets began exploding.
The shopkeeper, whose 15-month-old son suffered from smoke inhalation and was taken to hospital, managed to kick the firework out of the shop.
Manchester, Oldham and Salford were recently named as some of the worst firework accident hotspots in England, according to the BBC.
