Police seek pensioner over city centre murder
29/02/2008
Police are searching for a 70-year-old man wanted in connection with a fatal stabbing in Manchester's gay village district on Monday night.
David Broady, described as a 6ft-tall white man of athletic build, has not been seen since the incident, in which 25-year-old Craig Douglas, of no fixed abode, was stabbed with a small knife on Canal Street.
Mr Douglas, a father and stepfather, was with another man when they were approached by two others at around 19:30 GMT.
The four got into an argument, Greater Manchester police (GMP) said, before Mr Douglas was stabbed in the neck. He died a short time later after being rushed to Manchester Royal Infirmary.
Detective Chief Inspector Steve Eckersley of GMP said Mr Broady's wife was "desperately worried" as he called for Mr Broady to present himself to police.
"I would urge David to do the right thing and come forward so we can establish the exact circumstances surrounding Craig's tragic death and move forward with our investigation," he said.
He reiterated a wider appeal for witnesses but warned members of the public not to approach Mr Broady.
A 66-year-old man arrested after the incident was bailed until March 24th while a 49-year-old also arrested was released without charge.
