Queerupnorth festival starts this weekend

02/05/2006

Manchester will be home to a three-week celebration of music, dance, drama and other arts, when the Queerupnorth festival begins on Sunday May 7th.

The international gay, lesbian and bisexual arts extravaganza will take place at a variety of venues across the city, offering a number of theatrical events.

Locations for the festival include the Library Theatre, the Contact theatre, the Green Room and the Royal Exchange Studio.

According to the festival's website, it is "renowned as Europe's leading producer and presenter of queer arts" and aims to bring the gay and lesbian work to a wider audience.

Kiwi & Herb is the launch night show and comes live from Harvey Nicholls, just off Market Street in the city centre.

The act performs in Manchester after a sell-out chain of shows at the Sydney Opera House and will move on to Broadway in New York after their performance in north-west England.

Running until Sunday May 28th, tickets are available but will vary in price for each event.
