Radio presenter leads tourist campaign
22/09/2008
A Radio 2 DJ is spearheading a new campaign to lure more people to the northwest.
DJ, television presenter, journalist and author Stuart Maconie said he was more than happy to "bang the drum" for the region.
"This is my part of the world, so I might be biased, but the northwest is full of fantastic places to visit," he said.
A diary of his travels around the region will be published in national newspapers and magazines over the next few months.
It will be backed by a new website entitled www.stuartsstories.com, where visitors can read all about his travels or download podcasts narrated by the presenter.
A collection of his stories will also be available through the website.
"We have some fascinating history and our popular culture is second to none," he said.
Executive director for the Northwest Regional Development Agency, which is launching the campaign, Peter Mearns said that the region was a lead destination for short breaks.
During his travels, Stuart visited Manchester's Northern Quarter and museums in Liverpool.
