Rail network public meeting announced

19/02/2008

A public meeting next week will give Manchester rail passengers the opportunity to hear about developments on the regional train network.

Attendees include representatives from major rail firms such as Northern Rail, First TransPennine Express and Network Rail.

They will each give presentations on their plans for the future of Manchester's rail network and members of the public will be given the chance to respond.

The seminar has been arranged by the Greater Manchester Passenger Transport Authority (GMPTA) and will take place on Wednesday February 27th.

Councillor Roger Jones, chair of GMPTA, said: "We want to keep people informed about public transport developments and give them a chance to have their say.

"This seminar is a great opportunity for people to find out about what's happening with their local train services and stations - and to let us know what their priorities are."

It will be held in the Council Chamber at Manchester Town Hall, starting at 10:30 GMT. Anyone interested in attending should contact the GMPTA by phone or email.

Earlier this year, the Department for Transport announced that Manchester rail services will be augmented by an extra 300 train carriages over the next eight years.
