SWAP festival returns to Manchester
09/06/2006
The Song Writers and Performers (SWAP) festival returns to Manchester in July, bringing with it "some of the world's top song-writing talent".
According to the event's website, the festival is about celebrating the art of song-writing, proving Manchester is "as fertile an environment as ever for new musical expression".
Between July 14th and 16th, there will be performances across the city from some internationally acclaimed artists such as funk star George Clinton, as well as I am Kloot and King Creosote.
In addition, the event will include a number of unsigned musicians, looking for their big break.
Now in its second year, SWAP aims to uncover new musical talent and the organisers believe that Manchester is an ideal place for up-and-coming musicians to showcase their talents.
Those involved in the event are trying to replicate the US, where many festivals are dedicated to unsigned musical talent.
Venues for the performances include the Lowry, the Academy and the Royal Northern College of Music.
