Salford Council praised in new report
13/02/2008
Residents of Salford are receiving a good service from their city council, a new report contends.
The Comprehensive Performance Assessment by the audit commission has awarded the authority three out of a maximum four stars in its latest end-of-term report.
Representing a rise from the previous term's result of two stars, the news was welcomed by council leader John Merry.
"This is independent confirmation that the council is performing well for the city and I am really pleased with what the report says about our services," he said.
Services examined by the audit commission include the quality and delivery of housing, care for the elderly, recycling and education.
The council was deemed to be a success compared to other local authorities in the report, which named partnership working as one of Salford's main strengths.
In related news, a row regarding Catholic education provision in Salford could be resolved by a new deal for the development of three new schools, the council has revealed.
