Salford baby-killer gets life imprisonment
16/11/2006
A man who killed his nine-month-old niece has been sentenced to life imprisonment.
Trevor Kenneth Stoker, from Salford, was found guilty by Manchester crown court of murdering the infant while he was babysitting her.
A judge has recommended that Mr Stoker serve a minimum of 17 years for the death of Mollie Louise Norman last June.
Detectives said the defendant punched Mollie several times, before repeatedly banging her head against a bed and causing severe internal brain damage.
Mr Stoker, who said there was a "beast" inside him, admitted to causing the child "pain and distress on a number of occasions" by squeezing her.
He stated that he deliberately harmed the child because he was angry with the girl's father and told detectives he "felt good" when he hit her.
Detective Chief Inspector Geoff Wessell, from Salford CID, said the case was "an extremely traumatic investigation for everyone involved".
"Even the most experienced officers cannot help but be affected by what has happened and the family have obviously been left absolutely devastated by their loss."
