Salford throws net over bullies
30/08/2006
Salford City Council has joined a national pilot to tackle racism and bullying in the schools and children's services.
Pupils and staff will have access to Sentinel Anti-Bullying software a web-based database where instances of bullying can be reported in a secure and confidential manner.
It is hoped that the new approach will encourage children to report incidents, as well as enabling teachers and local authority staff to coordinate a robust challenge to racism and bullying.
Councillor John Warmisham said: "Sentinel will enable Salford to meet national requirements in reporting racial incidents, but will go beyond this, combating all forms of bullying within schools and children’s services, including gender and homophobic bullying."
The council states that all schools in the city should have an effective whole-school policy against bullying, which includes head teachers having measures in place to prevent bullying among pupils.
