Sunday service prayers granted for passengers
28/06/2006
Manchester residents living near Greenfield and Mossley stations will now "find it much easier to reach Manchester city centre, Ashton and Stalybridge" at the weekends, due to a new Sunday service on the trains.
According to councillor Roger Jones, chair of the Greater Manchester Passenger Transport Authority (GMPTE), a number of local tourist attractions will also become more reachable because of the move.
A new two-hourly service, which stops at these two Greater Manchester stations, has been introduced on Sundays, after being scrapped in 1968.
Councillor Jones, said: "This route is already well used during the rest of the week and I'm sure the new Sunday service will prove popular as well.
"The Sunday service will also allow people in Greater Manchester and West Yorkshire to reach tourist attractions along the line, including Greenfield, Uppermill, Diggle and the Huddersfield Narrow Canal."
Last week, a new transport information centre, GMPTE Online, opened at No.1 Piccadilly, offering public transport users news about bus, train and tram services in the city.
