Sustainable commuting scheme unveiled at Trafford Park

08/07/2008

The Highways Agency has stepped up efforts to promote sustainable commuting to and from Trafford Park.

Manchester United Football Club, power tool firm Hilti, cereal producer Kellogg's and ski slope operator Chill Factore are based at Europe's largest industrial estate and have all signed up to the Highways Agency's Influencing Travel Behaviour scheme.

The Highways Agency will be at Hilti's this week to promote a series of sustainable travel options such as car sharing and to hand out free public transport tickets.

Diane Kisiel, of the Highways Agency, said it is important for firms to realise that they can "make a difference whether they are large or small employers".

Trafford Park is home to more than 1,400 businesses, including Proctor & Gamble and United Utilities.

Under the proposed congestion charge scheme, cars entering Trafford Park may be offered a 50 per cent reduction until the proposed Metrolink line is completed in around eight years' time.
