Teenage murder investigation underway
18/08/2008
A murder investigation has been launched after a 16-year-old died in a stabbing incident in Manchester.
Police said Conor Black had been stabbed once in Moston Lane, Harpurhey, in the early hours of Saturday morning after attending a party in the area.
Emergency services were called and the teenager received treatment for a puncture wound but died on the way to hospital.
Nearby junctions were cordoned off at the weekend while forensic officers carried out a fingertip search of the area.
Detective superintendent Shaun Donnellan said: "We are at the early stages of this inquiry, but we believe there may have been witnesses who could assist our investigation into finding out what happened."
Friends of the teenager have been arriving at the scene of the murder to leave tributes.
The joinery student from Harpurhey was described by one friend as "loveable" and "respectful".
North West Ambulance Services has been forced to deny a report from an eyewitness who said there had been a 30-minute delay in getting an ambulance to the scene.
A spokesman said an ambulance was on site within 15 minutes.
