Thaksin presents formal bid for Man City FC
21/06/2007
Thaksin Shinawatra, the former Thai prime minister, who was ousted in a bloodless coup last September, has officially put forward a takeover bid for Manchester City football club.
Board members will now decide whether or not to accept the £81.6 million offer, although much depends on whether Thaksin can realistically proceed given that his assets have been frozen.
Thai prosecutors have filed charges against the former premier and have asked him to return to Thailand to face corruption charges.
If Man City's board approves the bid, it is possible that Thaksin will offer the manager's role to Sven-Goran Eriksson, according to the BBC.
BBC Radio Five Live football correspondent Jonathan Legard said: "I am told that Eriksson has now been offered the job by Thaksin. Whether he takes over is another matter. He is thinking it over."
However, Sven's agent Athole Still has made efforts to play down the rumours that talks have taken place, although he conceded that the former England boss would be interested in such a proposition.
