Tourists flock to Manchester for short break
25/09/2007
Manchester has come second in the top ten most popular holiday destinations in the UK.
The number of visits to the city last year is around the same number of people who live in Greater Manchester, which is around 2.4 million.
VisitBritain's poll shows that although Manchester is not as popular as London when it comes to attracting tourists, it is a more favoured destination that Blackpool, York, Liverpool and Birmingham.
In fact, Manchester is described by VisitBritain as the coolest city in the UK.
VisitBritain has now launched a City Breaks campaign to capitalise on the success of Manchester and London and to remind domestic visitors of Britain's best attractions.
Marketing manager Laurence Bresh said: "England's cities offer contemporary architecture and attractions standing cheek by jowl alongside centuries of heritage."
