Trafford Centre bus withdrawn
18/12/2007
The Greater Manchester Passenger Transport Executive (GMPTE) is to withdraw public funding for the ML1 bus service that links the Metrolink with the Trafford Centre.
Manchester transport chiefs made the decision because of the success of commercial services operating between Stretford and the Trafford Centre, with almost a dozen buses an hour running on that route.
The ML1 service, introduced nearly ten years ago, is funded by GMPTE, the Trafford Centre and the newly-built Chill Factor ski centre.
Michael Renshaw, GMPTE's interim service delivery director, said there is "no need for us to provide public funding for the service".
"I hope passengers who use the ML1 to reach the Trafford Centre will understand the reasons for our decision."
Meanwhile, a series of pocket-sized Trainguides featuring the new winter timetables has been launched, featuring station arrival and departure times and information about connecting bus services.
