Trafford Council 'could be on the move'
07/06/2006
Plans to move Trafford Council's town hall to cater for an extended Lancashire County Cricket Club (LCCC) are to be discussed.
Over the coming months, councillors will decide whether to implement plans that will see the council move to a new venue close to the Trafford Centre, the BBC reports.
In moving to a new site, Trafford Council could save around £3 million in repair works, which are needed at its current location.
In addition, the proposed new town hall, which would be built at Trafford Quays by Peel Holdings, would cater for around 1,000 council staff.
However, the BBC indicates that some heritage campaigners wish to make the current town hall, which was opened in 1933, a listed building.
Talks will be conducted between the council, LCCC and the building contractors, as to the best move for all parties.
Originally, LCCC were planning to move from their Old Trafford home in order to find more modern facilities.
However, it emerged last month that the current ground and surrounding areas could be developed into a "world class" cricket complex.
