Twin cities put forward enterprise bid
05/09/2006
Manchester and Salford are putting forward a £25 million bid to the government in an effort to transform deprived communities in the two cities.
The bid, which will be submitted to the government's Local Enterprise Growth Initiative, is designed to advance and support enterprise in the two Greater Manchester cities.
If the bid is successful, advisers and grants will be available to help potential start-ups and entrepreneurs.
Manchester City Council leader Sir Richard Leese said: "We are determined to connect residents in priority regeneration areas to the economic success of the city-region as a whole.
"Encouraging the entrepreneurial spirit to flourish is an important part of this, promoting employment and unlocking potential within our communities."
The Association of Greater Manchester Authorities, which has put forward a strategy for the city-region, hopes that by 2025, Greater Manchester will be an area "where all people have the opportunity to participate in, and benefit from, the investment and development of their city".
