Wheel of Manchester to stay an extra fortnight
30/06/2008
Manchester's big wheel has been given a reprieve and will stay in the city centre for another two weeks, it has emerged.
The 196-foot wheel in Exchange Square should have been dismantled yesterday but council bosses have said it can stay a little longer, reports the BBC.
It has become a major city centre icon, attracting both domestic and overseas tourists that are eager to see Manchester's answer to the London Eye.
Situated near the Printworks and the cathedral, it offers wide-ranging views of Greater Manchester and the north-west.
The portable wheel, which has 42 capsules, was located in Paris for three years, at the end of the Champs Elysees.
Meanwhile, there is a plan to bring a 300-foot wheel to Piccadilly Gardens. If given the green light, the wheel could be in operation sometime next year.
