Wythenshawe Festival goes back in time
18/07/2006
The Wythenshawe Festival returns on Saturday, with the main attraction being the re-enactment of the siege on Wythenshawe Hall during the English Civil War.
Councillor Glyn Evans, the deputy lord mayor, will open the event, which sees 17th century history brought to life at Wythenshawe Park.
Additionally, a living history camp will be on show, allowing visitors to experience how soldiers lived.
Community stalls and local performers will also be in place to offer weekend entertainment on what is expected to be another hot weekend.
Councillor Mark Hackett, executive member for culture and leisure, said: "Summer is a great time to enjoy the city's parks.
"The gardens are full of colour and in Wythenshawe you have the added benefit of the horticultural and farm centres. The Wythenshawe Festival provides a great weekend of entertainment for all and the civil war re-enactment is a good introduction to our local history and understanding our past."
According to the BBC's five-day weather forecast, Manchester will reach highs of 23 degrees Celsius on Saturday.
