Adebayor: Arsenal need killer instinct to win titles
14/04/2008
Arsenal striker Emmanuel Adebayor believes his team must develop a 'killer instinct' in order to compete with the top teams in the Premier League.
The Togolese international has witnessed the Gunners' season implode in the last seven days after being knocked out of the Champions League following a 4-2 defeat by Liverpool at Anfield and falling further behind Manchester United in the Premier League with a 2-1 defeat at Old Trafford.
Both of these matches were within Arsenal's grasp, however, as Adebayor scored a late equaliser in Europe that would have taken them through - only for the team to concede two late goals.
And they had led against United before the home side recovered to win the game, leading manager Arsene Wenger to admit his side now cannot win the domestic league title.
Having been knocked out of all three cup competitions already this season, it is set to be another trophy-less year at the Emirates Stadium.
And Adebayor believes this trend is likely to continue if the team do not improve their ability to hold onto a lead.
"Last season we finished fourth so we have made a lot of progress and we deserved something," he told the club's official website.
"I still believe we are still one of the best teams in the world. We know how to achieve things and we know how to play football.
"But next season we have to come out like a killer to do something. We have the quality. We know that because we always seem to score first."
The 24-year-old gave his backing to his manager, saying Wenger is "a great man and a great manager" and stating his confidence that the current group of players would experience success soon.
"For sure, we will win something, no doubt about that," he said.
"We will never give up. As a player I am not ready to give up. We will play until the end of the season."
