Aragones warns Spain to finish the job
28/06/2008
Luis Aragones believes Spain can lift the Euro 2008 trophy as they now have the right mentality to achieve success.
Aragones is wary of the threat posed by opponents Germany but thinks his side now have a mental toughness that is the match for Joachim Low's team.
The 69-year-old said: "This is a very good time for us and I hope we can achieve something important.
"We are psychological strong and I think that we are going to win."
Spain have the best scoring record in the tournament and Aragones attributes their success, in part, to their determination to win their games rather than their primary concern being to avoid defeat.
Although the Spanish manager will be without top scorer David Villa for tomorrow's final he is sure the rest of his squad will still be able to produce the necessary performance to help them win the tournament.
Spain have not won a major trophy since 1964 and Aragones believes his team will have a greater desire to win on Sunday. He claims that this desire will prove to be the deciding factor in the match.
He said: "Germany have fast, quality players, but the team that wants to lift the title will have to go out from the start with a winning mentality."
Despite being delighted with Spain's performance so far in the tournament Aragones has warned his side it will not count for anything unless they "finish the job".
"I am delighted for Spain, for the players and then for myself to have reached this point. Now, the time has come for us to finish the job," he concluded.
