Arsenal star Hleb looks to be on his way to Barcelona
05/06/2008
Midfielder Alexander Hleb looks almost certain to leave Arsenal after his agent revealed that he had already held talks with Barcelona.
Hleb had been linked with a move to Inter Milan, but that now seems unlikely with the arrival of Jose Mourinho. But Hleb's agent Uli Ferber admitted he had met with Barcelona representatives to discuss a move.
"We have had talks with Barcelona but nothing has been signed," Ferber told BBC Sport, while another of Hleb's representatives revealed that the player was keen to move to Inter Milan.
Hleb himself has yet to say if he will be staying or leaving, but is expected to make an announcement when he comes back from his holidays next week.
It will be a major blow for Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger if Hleb decides to leaves, especially as he has already lost one of his key midfielders, Mathieu Flamini to AC Milan.
Wenger, however, looks to be preparing for life without Hleb as he expects to complete a move for French international Samir Nasri after the European Championships.
The Gunners boss was hoping to tie up the transfer for the 20-year-old before the tournament, but revealed a problem regarding wages had delayed the deal from going through.
