Benitez expecting to bring in "three or four new players"
01/05/2008
Rafael Benitez has already turned his attention to next season by revealing there will definitely be new players arriving in the summer.
Less than 24 hours after the Liverpool manager saw his side crash out of the Champions League semi-finals at the hands of Chelsea, Benitez admitted he needed to rebuild his squad.
Benitez met with co-owner Tom Hicks last week and was assured that funds would be available to him to bring new players.
"Clearly now we have to start thinking about the future," he said. "We must improve and we will add quality to the squad.
"We will be looking at the squad and preparing for next season. You can see we are closer to the top but we still need three or four new players.
"We need to keep working, our scouting department is certainly doing that. We have two more games and will try to win them and then improve the squad for next season."
Benitez spent big last summer when he brought the likes of Fernando Torres, Ryan Babel, and Yossi Benayoun to the club. He also bought defender Martin Skrtel in the January transfer window.
But despite all the money he has spent, Benitez has still failed to bring the Premier League title to Anfield. Liverpool are poised to finish the season in fourth position, and they are currently 11 points behind league leaders Manchester United.
