Benitez will seek answers from Liverpool board
13/04/2008
Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez has stated he will talk with the club's owners about the boardroom infighting "as soon as possible".
Speaking after his team's 3-1 home win against Blackburn Rovers, Benitez played down suggestions that the Liverpool players were being affected by the recent revelations that the club's directors made an approach to the former Germany national coach Jurgen Klinsmen, though he added that he was "surprised" at the things he had read.
"I want to clarify the situation, not just about the meeting but the people who were in that meeting," he told the post-match press conference.
"I will ask some questions; I will talk about things with them. That means as soon as possible - days, maybe hours."
Tom Hicks revelations that both fellow owner George Gillett and chief executive Rick Parry were involved in the talks with Klinsmann have further added to the atmosphere of mistrust currently plaguing Liverpool.
Earlier this week Hicks demanded the resignation of Parry, while a significant number of the club's fans have sided with the manager against their American owners.
The victory at Anfield gave Liverpool a five-point advantage over local rivals Everton for fourth spot and a place in next year's Champions League, in which they are due to face Chelsea in this year's semi-finals.
