Bent stresses need to get first win for Spurs
11/10/2008
Striker Darren Bent has stressed the need for Tottenham Hotspur to get their first league win of the season before the gap between themselves and the rest gets too big.
Spurs are currently rooted to the foot of the Premier League and have taken just two points from their opening seven games.
Despite this Bent believes Spurs will be able to fight their way out of their predicament. However, the former Charlton man knows they must get their first three points sooner rather than later.
Tottenham's next match is against second from bottom Stoke and Bent says the Potters provide the perfect opportunity for Spurs to start climbing the table.
He said: "One win won't get us out of it, we need to start winning games so that there isn't a gap where you need to win two or three games just to have a chance."
Bent insists that despite their poor start to the season the players and coaching staff remain united and are all focused on moving up the table.
"Everyone is still upbeat," he added. "There are things going around that there is unrest in the dressing room but everyone is behind the manager, and we are all behind each other."
Bent has experienced relegation before in 2007 with the Addicks, although he scored 13 times that season the London side still went down. However, the striker does not think the same fate awaits Spurs.
"I've said on numerous occasions, I'm sure we'll be okay and we'll put it right sooner or later," Bent concluded.
Spurs are currently four points adrift of Fulham who are in 17th position, one place above the relegation zone.
