Bentley desperate to leave Rovers for new challenge
15/06/2008
David Bentley has revealed he wants to leave Blackburn Rovers.
The England midfielder has put a host of Premier League clubs on high alert, after admitting he wants to play Champions League football.
Bentley has been linked with moves to Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur, and Manchester City.
The 23-year-old, whose contract at Rovers expires in 2011, said he feels it is time for a new challenge.
"I've been here for three years and I love the club and I love playing for them but I feel I've done everything I can," Bentley said.
"I owe so much to them and I hope I've repaid them with the way I've played.
"But I need to be pushing and moving on somewhere else, so we'll see what the summer can bring - and in this transfer window, hopefully something can be sorted out."
Bentley added that he told Rovers he wanted to leave before boss Mark Hughes left to become manager of Manchester City.
The winger joined the Lancashire club in January 2006 after a frustrating five-year spell at Arsenal.
Bentley was one of Rovers' star performers last season, scoring nine goals and being the main supply to striker Roque Santa Cruz who bagged 23 goals.
