Bindra wins India's first ever individual gold

Abhinav Bindra has won the men's 10m air rifle shooting Olympic gold medal.

The victory represents India's first ever individual Olympic gold, having only picked up medals in team events such as hockey.

Bindra defeated Athens champion Zhu Qinan of China by 0.8 points, winning 700.5 points to 699.7.

Finland's Henri Hakkinen picked up the bronze medal with a score of 699.4.

His compatriot Satu Makela-Nummela won the gold in women's trap shooting event today.

In a new Olympic record, Makela-Nummela hit all the first 11 targets and 21 in all, finishing on a score of 91.

Zuzana Stefecekova of Slovakia picked up the silver with a score on 89 and America's Corey Cogdell won the bronze.ADNFCR-8000014-ID-18726312-ADNFCR
